“I was not able to work during my radiation treatments and The Putnam First Cancer Fund helped me so
much. Thanks to them I didn’t have to stress about how I was going to pay my car payment or my electric
bill or even buy groceries or gas and instead I could focus on my health. I am so thankful for all their help.”

“Cancer Fund was a tremendous help with my Radiation Treatments”

Jane White

My name is Amie Johns, I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in February of 2025. I was a hairdresser and server and
due to the cancer, unable to work. I pretty much needed 24 hour care in the beginning. My husband had to take unpaid
time off from work. We were struggling with the emotional and financial aspects of this terrible disease. We didn’t have
any health insurance, and I was going to need both radiation and chemotherapy.
In steps Dr. Anand Kuruvilla and Putnam First Cancer Fund. The fund helped us with some of our bills and provided us
with gas cards and Publix gift cards, while I went through radiation treatment. This helped free up enough money for us
to get the health insurance I needed to continue treatment.

Now a year later I am scheduled for a stem cell transplant in Gainsville. This will require multiple trips to and from HCA
of North Florida as well as a two week hospital stay, followed by two weeks in a hotel in Gainesville. (I am required to be
within 30 minutes of hospital after my release.) When Dr. K heard I was anxious about the up coming financial strain, he
again referred me to Ms. Gail and the Putnam First Charity Fund. We have again been provided help. We are very
blessed to have such an organization in our community and I am extremely thankful.
